Hawthorne
Close to the beach, the airport and the job centers, at South Bay entry prices.

Most of the city is 1940s and 1950s single-family houses on numbered streets, with newer townhomes in pockets and quick access to the 405 and the 105. It is one of the most practical places to buy a house in the South Bay.
Over the last year, Hawthorne houses sold for a median of $890,000, about $720 a square foot.

Buying and selling: what to know
Check permits closely. Many Hawthorne houses have been added on to over the years, and an unpermitted addition changes both value and insurance.
For sellers, well-priced houses still move quickly here, but buyers have more choices than in the beach cities, so condition and price have to line up.

Schools
Most of Hawthorne is in the Hawthorne School District for K-8 and the Centinela Valley Union High School District for high school. The Hollyglen area on the west side is in Wiseburn Unified, which feeds the Da Vinci high schools. Confirm the district for any specific address.
Getting around
Hawthorne sits between the 405 and the 105, with the Metro C Line's Hawthorne/Lennox station and LAX next door. It is one of the easiest commutes in the South Bay to El Segundo, Playa Vista and the airport.
